Preparing a Weped FS, SST, or GTS: XHS motors, Performance battery, and wiring harness

Weped scooters are heavy-duty and robust machines, designed from the outset for power. In 2021, we installed the first XHS75 motors to arrive in Europe on a Weped SST. Since then, several Weped models have passed through our workshop, including a GTS that reached speeds of over 145 km/h on a track. This guide outlines what can be done on a Weped and the order in which to do it.

The essentials

  • Our XHS and XHT motors can be installed on Weped SST, SSGT, and FS models without requiring any specific modifications.
  • The Performance batteries for Weped deliver significantly more power than the original batteries.
  • For track use, our two-piece removable rims allow you to mount slick tires.
  • As always: brakes and steering first, then power.

Here's what our preparations have demonstrated:

  • Weped SST "Golden Hour" (2021): The first XHS75 motors to arrive in Europe, with a top speed of 127 km/h and a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 6.98 seconds.
  • Weped GTS Slick: Equipped with XHS75 motors, Hope brakes, and our removable two-piece rims for mounting slicks; capable of speeds exceeding 145 km/h on the track.
  • Weped GTS 2024, prepared for a customer: C350 controllers, rewired motors, 20,000W power, and a top speed of 110 km/h.

1. Brakes and steering

A modified Weped is heavy and fast, so braking is the first thing to address. See our guide on braking for a powerful electric scooter, and our Hope Tech 4 V4 brakes, which we install on our performance machines.

2. The battery

As with any high-performance scooter, the original battery limits the current. Our Performance 79.2V 36Ah battery for Weped FS, SS-T, and SS-R boasts up to 360A peak, compared to 140A for the original battery, with a connected BMS. We also offer batteries for the GTS and SSGT models, in both standard and Performance versions. See our Weped batteries.

A battery with a higher voltage than the original requires checking the controllers, charger, and accessories: see our guide on upgrading to a higher voltage.

3. The Motors

The advantage of the Weped is that our XHS and XHT motors can be mounted on SST, SSGT, and FS models without any special modifications. They are compatible with both the original Weped rims and our CNC-machined aluminum tubeless rims.

  • XHS75 High Speed: 2,340 RPM at no load at 60V, 2,808 RPM at 72V, with 10mm² phase cables, and a nominal power of 6,000W.
  • XHT75 High Torque: Same dimensions, wound for high torque.
  • Wider versions, up to the XHS100, are available for those who want to go even further.

The choice between the two motor windings is explained in our guide High Speed or High Torque. See all our motors.

4. The Controllers

To operate XHS or XHT motors and a Performance battery, the controllers must monitor current and voltage. Our Weped GTS 2024, for example, uses C350 controllers. See our controller guide and our controller comparison.

5. For the drivetrain: rims and tires

On the track, slick tires completely change the level of grip. Our two-piece removable rims allow you to mount them on a Weped, just like on our GTS Slick. See our tires and rims.

Workshop tip

More power on a heavy machine means a lot of energy to dissipate during braking. On the track, monitor the temperature of both the brake discs and pads, as well as the motors.

And what about the law?

These modifications are intended for use on closed circuits and private property. On public roads, electric scooters are designed to be limited to a maximum speed of 25 km/h: please refer to our guide on laws and unlocking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are XHS motors compatible with a Weped GTS?

Our product sheets indicate compatibility with the Weped SST, SSGT, and FS models without requiring any specific modifications. Our Weped GTS Slick model was fitted with XHS75 units; for your specific machine, please consult with our service department.

Should I change the rims?

Not necessarily: the XHS and XHT motors are compatible with the original Weped rims. Our CNC aluminum tubeless rims and our two-piece removable rims are designed for tubeless tires or slicks.

Where should we begin?

First, the brakes, then the battery. The battery eliminates the dropouts and provides power to the entire system; the motors and controllers come next.
