A world range record broken by a hydrogen Tuk-Tuk at the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans

708 km covered in 24 hours on the Alain Prost circuit, 2 kg of hydrogen consumed and 18% battery range remaining: the hydrogen Tuk-Tuk, powered by Rage Mechanics, has set a new world record. A fantastic achievement for the Rage Mechanics teams, who motorized this vehicle from our partner Systemics.

A human and technical collaboration
A world record made possible thanks to the collaboration of four companies that successfully worked together on the project: Systemics, Hydroxide, Save My Battery and Rage Mechanics.

Rage Mechanics took charge of the entire motorization, programming and coordination of the components on the Tuk-Tuk to ensure everything worked in harmony.

A challenge to demonstrate the potential of hydrogen
The objective of this world record was to prove the reliability and potential of hydrogen in light mobility. And it was largely achieved!

On June 9, alongside the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the hydrogen Tuk-Tuk and its drivers started the first part of the challenge: driving for 12 hours using hydrogen converted into electricity via a fuel cell. A challenge met with flying colors thanks to the performance of the vehicle and the work carried out by the various participating companies.

On June 15, the second stage successfully concluded. The world record was broken, with more than 700 kilometers covered on the legendary Alain Prost circuit of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Frédéric Lequien driving the Hydrogen & Lithium TukTuk

This exceptional record would not have been possible without the many drivers who took turns. Among them, the firefighters of SDIS 72, engineers from Alpine and Toyota, as well as Pierre Fillon, Nicolas Le Man and Frédéric Lequien.

Rage Mechanics components integrated into this project:

-3Shul C700 controller

The 3Shul C700 is an electric motor controller based on Benjamin Vedder's open-source VESC® firmware, designed to efficiently manage brushless motors in various electric mobility applications. Its main features include support for Field Weakening and MTPA (Maximum Torque Per Amp), allowing to optimize torque and motor efficiency. It also offers the possibility to create LISP modules from firmware 6, an intuitive user interface, and supports various control modes such as PPM, ADC, UART, I2C, USB or CAN-bus. Featuring an operating voltage from 36V to 88V (8S-21S), a continuous current capacity of 150A for the battery, 350A for the motor phases, and 350A peak for the battery and 700A peak for the motor phases.

-SmartDisplay

The SmartDisplay is the most advanced on-board computer for light electric vehicles available on the market. The telemetry integrated into the SmartDisplay made it possible to monitor all the Tuk-Tuk's data live during this world record and to adjust riding parameters accordingly.
